Cuffie River Nature Retreat & Ecolodge

The Cuffie River Nature Retreat & Lodge is located in Tobago's beautiful mountain rainforest, on the Caribbean side of the island in the idyllic Runnemede valley.   This secluded area in the foothills of Tobago's virgin rainforest abounds with birdlife.

In Tobago we'll seek the 13 species of birds not found in Trinidad: Red-billed Tropicbird, Rufous-vented Chachalaca, Striped Owl, White-tailed Sabrewing, Red-crowned Woodpecker, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, White-fringed Antwren, Venezuelan Flycatcher, Blue-backed Manakin, Caribbean Martin, Scrub Greenlet, Black-faced Grassquit, and Variable Seedeater.

We'll explore Tobago from the wetlands in the southern lowlands to the heights of the Tobago Rainforest Reserve and on to Little Tobago Island, an uninhabited offshore island wildlife sanctuary.  During our visit to Tobago we'll be transported in a comfortable minivan throughout the southern lowlands, to the Tobago Main Ridge Preserve -- the oldest national park in the Western Hemisphere -- and to several areas where hummingbirds, chachalacas, doves, motmots, and jacamars congregate.  Our two-mile glass-bottomed-boat trip to Little Tobago Island Wildlife Sanctuary will allow us to view colonies of nesting seabirds and explore a seasonal dry forest that looks exactly the same as when Christopher Columbus first viewed it.

The food at the Cuffie River Nature Retreat is excellent, especially the seafood, which is freshly caught only a few miles from Cuffie.  Indulge in a relaxing swim in the elevated pool if you like, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest.

Tobago has a laid-back ambiance that contrasts sharply with that of Trinidad, which bustles with activity and has a more diverse cultural mix.  Your visit to Cuffie River will be wonderful thanks to the excellent location, warm hospitality, excellent food, and plenty of hiking trails and lush native gardens.
