During the tour we found a grand total of 210 species of birds, including 12 heard-only's, with extraordinarily good views of many, and with sightings of at least six species of birds unusual enough to merit submission of details to the Trinidad and Tobago Rare Bird Committee. I would like to thank all of the participants – Deb, Debbi, Ed, Jay, Jerry, Joan, John, Pat, Pete, and Terry – for helping make this a very productive and enjoyable tour. As always I extend special thanks to Martyn Kenefick, author of the field guide we are all using now, for all of the time, energy, and thoughtfulness he put into making this a truly memorable birding adventure, and to Ivan La Rose, our excellent driver and lecturer.

Arrival
Arrival
As is traditional on the opening day of a T&T tour, participants migrated south from their respective homes in North America to Piarco International Airport (POS) in north-central Trinidad. As we arrived, our drivers, Ivan and Keon, ferried us through the town of Arima and 12 miles up the Arima Valley into the coolness of the world famous Asa Wright Nature Centre (AWNC). Our last contingent arrived at about 1 a.m. Asa Wright would be our base of operations for the next five days.
