Bird Species of Particular Note:
- Little Tinamou: Often heard but seldom seen; observed at Asa Wright Nature Centre.
- Little Egret: A European species, accidental in the New World, observed on both islands.
- Scarlet Ibis: Largest flocks in recent years, observed in Caroni Swamp.
- Pearl Kite: First observation of this species north of the Eastern Main Road.
- Common Barn-Owl: A common but rarely seen species, seen twice on our trip.
- Common Potoo: Very close looks at this bizarre nocturnal goatsucker.
- Oilbird: A unique species seen deep within Guacharo Cave.
- Crimson-crested Woodpecker: A "first" for any of our trips, excellent look along Plum-Mitan Road.
- Silvered Antbird: A very difficult species to see, observed along Blanchisseuse Road.
- Yellow-legged Thrush: Another "first" for our trip, a flock of 3-4 observed at AWNC.
- Chivi Vireo: Fine looks at an individual of this this seldom-seen species at Grafton Estate.
- Blue-capped Tanager: A brief look at this rare high-elevation species along Blanchisseuse Road.
- Ruddy-breasted Seedeater: A single male of this rare species observed on power lines at Crown Point Airport.
Other Wildlife Observations of Note:
Agoutis, squirrels, speckled caiman, fer-de-lance (caught on AWNC property), bats including fruit bats at Grafton Estate, four-eyed fish, giant marine toads, tiny black cricket frogs, Tego and Ameiva lizards, geckos, and several kinds of crabs.
And of course . . .
